Annual Train Horn Honk Gathering

Here's a message announcing the annual gathering of folks that enjoy operating hteir collections of trainhorns. This event is at the site of the future Applachian Railroad Museum next to the ETTP facility on Highway 58 west of Oak Ridge, TN. Thisis a fun event but be prepared for some noise!

All,

On Friday September 28 and Saturday September 29 SARM wll be hosting its fifth annual Horn Collectors Meet. During the meet air horn and whistle collectors, manufacturers and railroad representatives from around the country will be on site for live demonstrations and recordings of horns and whistles past and present. We are expecting between 40 and 50 participants.

Both evenings we will be operating charter excursion trains for the group. Trains will depart from the ETRC work area at the corner of Burchfield Rd. and Connector Rd. We will need a guard for boarding at 6:30PM each evening. The train will travel the same route on the same timing as a normal excursion run.

During these two days, please be aware that there will be a elevated level rail and horn activity in the Connector Rd. area.

Thanks for your help!

Re: Annual Train Horn Honk Gathering

Coming back from Knoxville, my wife and I stopped by this Friday afternoon and received quite the horn job at the rail crossing. There were folks (per car tags) from California, Oregon, Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio from my small bit of snooping. One guy had twin large air tanks in the back of his p-up plumbed with two diesel horn sets. Whats more unique is he attached a steam whistle to the piping. He towed an operating gasoline powered air compressor on a trailer to keep the tanks filled. He towed this whole rig passed everyone on the road blowing the steam whistle using a long cord from the whistle up to the cab.

if you can stop by I suggest bringing ear plugs for long stays.
